What MSE 2.0 Final Will Offer
The current stable version of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), the free security software solution offered by the Redmond-based software giant, is version 1.0. You can download it now and install it on your system if you do not have any other form of protection. MSE is offered free of charge to home users and as of this October to small businesses on up to 10 PCs.

While computer users are relying on MSE to protect them from all the nasties that lurk around on the internet, Microsoft is busy working on MSE 2.0. The upcoming MSE 2.0 is currently being Beta tested internally and is expected to be released as a final version by the end of the year or at the start of 2011.

When the final version of MSE 2.0 will be rolled out (rumor has it this will be in January 2011), it will come with a few important changes:

- The user will be able to turn the Windows Firewall on or off during the setup process.
- MSE integrates with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer web browser to protect the user from web-based attacks.
- An updated antimalware engine that provides better performance, better detection, and better cleanup capabilities.
- To protect the user against network-based exploits, MSE will come with network inspection system functionality.
- The user interface will be tweaked and improved.

There was a rumor making the rounds online that said MSE 2.0 will also feature an activation feature change. As you may already know, if you do not pass Genuine validation, you cannot install MSE on your machine. MSE will simply tell you that you may not be running a genuine Windows version and will not complete the installation process. The rumor was that if you did not pass validation, MSE would continue the installation process and would work free of charge for a period of 30 days – you know, like a trial period. Microsoft dismissed these rumors by saying that it did not make such a change.
