What the Nexus One Software Update Has to Offer
Nexus One users, prepare to update the software that runs your smartphone. Google announced yesterday that it released a software update for the Nexus One; update that would be delivered to you over-the-air. The update, as the Mountain View-based search engine giant explained, delivers “some great new features” and fixes a few bugs that you’ve been complaining about.

“Starting [February 2], Nexus One users will begin to receive an over-the-air software update on their phones. In order to access the update, you will receive a message on your phone's notification bar. Just download the update, wait for it to install, and you should be all set. This update will be rolled out gradually to phones - and most users might not receive the notification until the end of the week. We hope you enjoy these new features and look forward to your feedback,” announced the Nexus One team

We’ll now take a look at all the new features the software update brings to the table – starting with what I thing is the most important change, multitouch support. The software update gives the Nexus One pinch-to-touch functionality, meaning you will be able to pinch and zoom in the phone's Browser, Gallery and Maps applications.

The update will also fix the 3G connectivity issues some users have been complaining about. Or at least it will help improve 3G connectivity.

The Google Maps application will be updated to version 3.4. This version comes with these changes (as detailed by the Nexus One team):
- Starred items synchronized with maps.google.com - access your favorite places from your phone or computer
- Search suggestions from your personal maps.google.com history - makes it easy to search for places you've searched for before
- Night mode in Google Maps Navigation - automatically changes your screen at night for easier viewing and driving

Last but not least, the software update will add a new item to the list of apps you can access from the All Apps menu: Google Goggles.
