What You Can Do with the Yahoo! Messenger One App
Earlier today we were reporting that Yahoo! announced the launch of a new Yahoo! Messenger API (thus opening the platform behind the popular instant messaging application) and the release of a new app called Yahoo! Messenger One. The app, which can be used on the Blackberry 9000, Blackberry 9700, Blackberry 8900, and Blackberry 9630 devices, will be rolled out to Indonesia first – hence it will be available in Bahasa Indonesian, the local language.

Care to find out what you can do with the application?
Here’s the lowdown:
  • Sing up for a new Yahoo! ID from within Yahoo! Messenger One.
  • Keep track of all your emails, instant messages and SMS conversations from a single location, an easy-to-use-and-access inbox.
  • Upload your contacts to Yahoo! and from one place, always have access to them. This is possible because the app comes with native address book syncing.
  • Easily access past conversations. All your conversations are stored in the cloud, meaning you always have access to them. It also means you won’t be able to lose them, which is nice.
  • Chat with friends even if they aren’t on Yahoo! You can do this via SMS. Please note that this feature is supported for Indonesian and US mobile contacts only.
  • Get the latest news, share the articles you like with your friends.

To get the Yahoo! Messenger One app you need only visit http://m.yahoo.com/one from your Blackberry 9000, Blackberry 9700, Blackberry 8900, or Blackberry 9630 device - again, the app will be rolled out to Indonesia first. Please note that the application is still in Beta. The regular Beta warnings apply: it may crash, it may still have some bugs, it may ruin your day.

“Indonesia does not require any introduction. Still, this is the world’s fourth-most populous country with more than 230 million people and about 30 million Internet users. With its mobile phone customer base having more than doubled to 165 million users in less than three years, and with popular devices like Blackberry smartphones and low cost clones growing at a fast rate, it is not all that surprising mobile users have outpaced active Internet users by more than 5-to-1. Clearly this is a nation on the move and we are bringing Yahoo! Messenger One right to the users,” commented Karen Yeo, Product Marketing, Apps.
