Yahoo! Doesn't Like Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) Either
Yahoo! would like computer users that take advantage of its services to have a very pleasurable user experience and make the most of what Yahoo! has to offer. Take Yahoo! Mail for example. It offers chat in mail, 25MB attachments (and up to 100MB), unlimited storage space and a whole lot more. These Yahoo! Mail enhancements have been rolled out over time in the 12 years since Yahoo! Mail has been available to users all over the world.
But if you are using an outdated browser, like for example IE6, you are not getting the most out of Yahoo! Mail. To get the most out of Yahoo!’s email client, the company suggests you upgrade to a newer browser. If you want to keep using Microsoft’s browser, there’s IE8. If you want to switch to something else, there’s Mozilla’s Firefox 3.6, Safari 3.0 and Google’s Chrome 4.0.

“Believe it or not, it’s been almost 10 years since Internet Explorer 6 was released, and 26% of Internet users are still using it. If you are still using an older browser, we will be encouraging you to upgrade to the latest version soon. We even have the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox that give you an optimized, one-click access to Yahoo! Mail,” explained Program Manager with Yahoo! Mail, Andrew Molyneux.
It’s not just Yahoo! that does not want its customers to use IE6. Mountain View-based search engine giant Google does not like IE6 any better. Google recently announced that it will phase out support for the outdated browser – and it will start by dropping IE6 support for its Google Docs and Google Sites services as of March 1.
Wondering why Microsoft, the company behind IE6, is still supporting the browser? IE6 was shipped with Windows XP as the operating system’s browser. Microsoft continues to support Windows XP, and since IE6 was bundled with the OS, it has to support the browser for the lifecycle of XP.
