YouTube App for Android with VEVO's Music Videos
As you may remember, back in December '09, YouTube announced the launch of Vevo, video site devoted exclusively to music. It has been more than a year since the launch of Vevo and YouTube has recently announced that VEVO music videos are now a part of the YouTube for Android app.

“We’re welcoming VEVO’s extensive library of official music videos from artists like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kanye West and U2 onto the YouTube 2.0 app for Android, available around the world. To watch these videos your mobile phone needs to be running Android 2.2 (Froyo),” YouTube Mobile Product Manager Andrey Doronichev.

A few other music-oriented changes have been made to provide the YouTube Android app user with a more enjoyable experience. A “music note” badge is used to separate regular videos from music videos, “artist bio” information can be read while listening to music, the “artist tracks” tab helps the user discover more tracks from that artist, the “related artists” tab allows the user to find music videos from similar bands.

“In addition to these features, tens of thousands of YouTube partner videos will also now have pre-roll ads appear on the YouTube 2.0 app for Android,” added Andrey Doronichev. “This not only expands distribution opportunities for partners like VEVO, but also opens up more revenue to partners distributing their content to mobile. Although we’ve tested ads on mobile over the years, this is our largest step in mobile monetization to date.”

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)-powered devices like the Nexus S come with the YouTube app pre-installed. So if you are on Gingerbread, then surely you already have the YouTube app and you can enjoy watching some music videos. If you don’t have the app you can get it from the Android Market (just search for YouTube).

Speaking of using the YouTube app to watch vides, Andrey Doronichev explained that “YouTube now exceeds 200 million views a day on mobile.”

In related news, YouTube has announced that the experimental homepage it was inviting users to test back in December has been rolled out to everyone. Read more on this topic here.
