As you may remember, back in July YouTube announced the launch of YouTube Leanback – it was released at the time as a Beta experiment on TestTube and you can still find it on TestTube. This October representatives of the immensely popular video sharing site have announced that YouTube Leanback will be available on the soon to be released Google TV.
Product Marketing Manager, Camille Hearst: “Today, YouTube Leanback moves forward into a new role at the center of the YouTube experience on Google TV, which you’ll start seeing in U.S. stores this week.”

If you are not familiar with YouTube Leanback, here’s the lowdown. YouTube Leanback immediately starts showing you stuff as soon as you access it, whether you do it online or on a Google TV. YouTube Leanback shows you videos based on your viewing history and based on your subscriptions. Furthermore, YouTube Leanback has 10 channels to offer – Comedy, Entertainment, News, Science & Technology, How To & Style, and so on. Videos on those channels are updated on a daily basis.
“Leanback is a new way to experience YouTube on a big screen. We named it “Leanback” so you could do just that: kick back and, with as little effort as possible, enjoy hours upon hours of YouTube videos. When you go to www.youtube.com/leanback , you’ll note that videos start playing immediately, are always presented in full screen and HD (when available), and you can easily browse using just the arrow keys on your keyboard,” explained Camille Hearst.
When you search for videos on YouTube, you will definitely need to click here and there. While using YouTube Leanback you can forget about the mouse and about clicking. Press the right arrow key and YouTube Leanback will immediately skip ahead to the next video; press the down or up arrows and you will be able to search, access player controls, and browse channels and videos.
